EU Domain Name Renewal Update
With the first round of .eu expirations now taking place, we'd like to clarify the registry's confusing renewal and expiration process:
- When a .EU name is renewed, the registration year technically ends on the last day of the last month of the term. For example, if a domain name is renewed on April 20, 2007, the registry will apply the renewal on April 30.
However, in order to prevent confusion, the whois will display the expiration date as April 20.
- Names that have NOT been renewed expire on their expiration date, and immediately enter a 40-day quarantine/redemption period. During that 40 day period, it can be retrieved by the owner; after the 40 days, it is made available to the public. To reactivate a domain name that is in quarantine, contact support. A £50 redemption fee applies.
Please note that the EU process is NOT the same as the US (.com/.net).
